Glen Lottie and Lottie Scholarship

The Glenn Lottie Scholarship is a newly formed annual scholarship of $2,000 going to a student pursuing a career in the skilled trades. The Blue Tigers is the community outreach sector of the Manistee County Democratic Party, which initially formed the scholarship. As a person who has dedicated himself to serving this community, it was decided that this scholarship should be in honor of Glenn Lottie.
Glenn has single-handedly provided community outreach services to various programs. He has been a County Commissioner for district 3 for several years. He has also been involved on a number of committees and authorities, such as, Ways and Means, Technology, Planning, Investment, Recycling, Green Team, Chittenden Nursery Ad-Hoc, Alliance for Economic Success, Area Agency on Aging of NM, Manistee Township Association, Betsie River Zoning Appeals Board and Blacker Airport Authority.
Wait, there’s more! Mr. Lottie has helped to maintain a fiscally responsible county government. He acquired the new BS&A accounting software for the financial office. He also acquired the new Fidlar digitizing software for the Register of Deeds office. He acquired the new BS&A software for the Treasurer’s office and the Equalization Department. He acquired the BS&A software for the Treasurer’s offices in every township. Glenn was involved in creating a county-wide “recycling” program. He was also involved with the “Green” committee, which instituted energy efficient and green programs. He was involved in the development of the County Master Plan and Recreation Plan.

Unbelieveable, and yet there’s more! Glenn Lottie was involved in the building of the new Blacker Airport terminal building. He also served on the Manistee County Board of Canvassers. He is a member and treasurer of the Spirit of the Woods Conservation Club. Glenn is a member and treasurer of the Kaleva Lions Club. He is on the Board of Directors of the Dickson School Cultural Center. He has chaired a three-county Household Hazardous Waste Program. Glenn is also a volunteer of the Manistee County Historical Museum. In addition to all this, he attends the meetings of the Brown, Dickson and Norman Townships to keep the citizens informed about county happenings.
Glenn Lottie exemplifies an unwavering commitment and his exceptional ability to get things done for the betterment of our community. As a person with phenomenal community outreach, the Blue Tigers proudly name this scholarship in his honor. The recipients for the scholarship for 2024 were: Sydney Bentley, of Bear Lake High School and William Somsel of Manistee High School. Sydney is studying to become a Dental Hygienist at Ferris State University and William is studying to become a Construction Manager at Ferris State University. There is plenty of time now to apply.
